■ストーンウォークとは

ストーンウォークは、戦争の犠牲になった無名の市民を悼むための碑石の旅です。平和主義に基づく超宗派の市民団体ピース・アビー（米国マサチューセッツ州）が主催し、これまで米国２回と、アイルランド、英国、日本、韓国の計6回実施しています。碑石はマーティン・ルーサー・キング牧師の棺を曳いたものと同じような台車に載せて、人々の手で曳かれ沿道を進みます。碑石と台車で約2㌧あります。碑石には、簡潔に“UNKNOWN CIVILIANS KILLED IN WAR” (戦争で殺された無名の市民たち) と刻まれています。

Stonewalk has been held six times in total, twice in the USA, Ireland, England, Japan and Korea. The journey of the Memorial Stone honoring civilian casualties of war was sponsored by The Peace Abbey, MA, USA, a multi-faith peace organization founded on the principles of pacifism. The stone is pulled by people along the road on a caisson similar to the one that pulled Dr. Martin Luther King’s coffin. The weight of the stone and caisson are two tons. The stone has a simple inscription “UNKNOWN CIVILIANS KILLED IN WAR.”

20世紀の戦争や内戦による犠牲者のうち80％が一般市民でした。ストーンウォークの目的は、この悲劇に注視し、国と個人に対して、紛争の解決と平和への新たな道を見つけるよう働きかけることです。

In the last century 80% of the casualties of war and civil strife have been civilians. The purpose of Stonewalk is to bring attention to this tragedy and encourage nations and individuals to find new pathways to conflict resolution and peace.
